Serato Studio Now Has a Free Version and New Auto Chord Mode

Are you a Serato DJ? Are you looking to use your newfound free time to learn production skills? Well, your timing is impeccable because Serato has just released an update to its beat making software, Serato Studio. It’s perfect for DJs and beat makers who are just learning production at

The biggest news about version 1.4.4 is that there is now a completely free version available that allows you to create, save, and export projects. You can easily load in an acapella or a full track to Serato Studio to chop up, make a mashup, or create a quick intro edit for your next livestream DJ set.

The free version has some limited features but includes most of the same functionality as the full version of Serato Studio. This includes four Decks, four Scenes, one Audio Track, MP3-only export, and no Automation. All of the other features in the full version are available for free such as FX, sampling, and instruments.

Also new in Serato Studio 1.4.4 is Auto Chord Mode, a feature that allows you generate chords using only one note, without the need for any music theory knowledge. Simply play one instrument note and instantly generate chords in your project key between two and seven notes. You can even choose to adjust the “Feel” of the chords, which modifies the note timing and velocity of the chord for a more natural, human sound.

Additional new features in Serato Studio 1.4.4 include:

  • Song View Improvements - You can now duplicate your Audio Tracks, utilize a new ‘Back to Start’ button in the Song View, and view new horizontal resizing in the Song View sidebar.
  • Quantized Cue Points – Quantize Mode will now snap your Cue Points to the closest half-beat just like Serato DJ.
  • Serato DJ Library Update – For all the producer/DJs, your DJ tab columns will now sync up with how they appear in Serato DJ.

Serato Studio 1.4.4 is available now. You can get started with the free version, or for the full version, there are options to buy outright for $199 or subscribe for $9.99 per month. Visit Serato’s website to learn more or check out the official introduction video at the top of this page.
